Meet the BOARD

Emmett Schelling, Board Chair

Emmett Schelling 

he/him/his

Emmett Schelling is a trans man, Houstonian, an immigrant from South Korea, an adoptee,  and currently serves as executive director of @transtexas. Emmett is a leader for trans rights and gender equity.

Emmett’s ferocious, community-focused, and no-nonsense approach to the work has led him to be given the honor of receiving an array of awards from local, state, and national organizations in recognition of his work. In 2022, he was named one of “TIME’s 100 2022 list of Most Influential People in the World.” His awards also include Equality Texas’s 2019 annual “Monica Roberts Trans Advocacy” award, 2020’s “Trans Advocate of the Year” from TLDEF, Texas Diversity Council’s annual “Trans Advocate of the Year” (2022), Equality Federation’s Leadership award (2022) just to note a few, and most recently recognized by the Rainbow Fund in Sweden (2026) as well as the Oscar Romero Humanitarian award from Rothko Chapel.

He happily resides in Houston with his wife, child, and two adopted pups. In his off time, he enjoys spending time with his family and friends through food and sports.

Ana Ramon, Board Member

Ana Ramon

Ana is the Executive Director of Annie’s List, where she leads the organization’s mission to elect progressive women across Texas. She previously served as Political Director at Annie’s List and has held senior leadership roles at the Intercultural Development Research Association, the Texas Senate Democratic Caucus, the American Cancer Society’s Cancer Action Network, and the Texas Legislative Study Group.

Ana holds a B.A. in Political Science from St. Mary’s University. Based in Houston, she is passionate about advancing equity through policy, advocacy, and the power of women’s political leadership.

Hallie Shafer, Board Member

Hallie Shafer

Hallie is the designer behind the wheel of She Ceramics. After spending five years teaching elementary art, Hallie left public school and opened her own — Broad Studios Club House, an educational ceramics studio. And when she’s not teaching or managing a thousand wonderful things, Hallie spends her time packing as much life as possible into basic everyday objects.
