HOUSTON, TEXAS - Attacks on the trans community must stop. Texas has increased its political attacks against trans people by insinuating hate and removing care. While Ken Paxton and the GOP are focusing on establishing conversion therapy at a children’s hospital and enforcing the bathroom bill (SB 8) to all Texas government entities and more, there is a strong rhetoric of trans hate that is costing people's lives.
We are with Houston and anyone impacted by the loss of a loved one and the loss of love to our fellow LGBTQIA+ community. Texas youth deserve to express themselves without fear of being outed by their teachers or counselors. Trans youth deserve to be alive and see themselves as adults. Trans people deserve to receive the care they need.
We know our love is stronger than their hate. We will not stop until we see a Texas where everyone thrives.
“While our city prides itself on our diversity and opportunity for all, this cannot be without protecting our black and brown trans sisters' rights to live and prosper. We cannot wait for another tragedy to strike our community. This Pride Month, we will honor the life and legacy of Persia Amarra Conway, the other beautiful lives lost, and fight for a more just Houston,” said Lauren Morton, Leadership Development Manager and Houston native.
