During May, there was an attempt to ban mifepristone, mailing pills to patients, and telehealth lines, some of the many ways people access abortion. The U.S Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit really tried to force its decision on every person in the USA. SCOTUS now temporarily allows that the abortion pill is available, but we say IT'S NOT ENOUGH. π‘ How many times must it be repeated that abortion access is: healthcare, a mental health resource, and, most importantly, NOT THE GOVERNMENT'S DECISION TO DECIDE FOR US. π€
|
Medication abortions are safe, effective, and now the method most used: 2/3 of the United States use it! We will always make it clear: Abortion Is Healthcare! π We call on everyone to sign onto this petition calling for the immediate need to protect abortion access now. You can still get Mifepristone and other medicines like it through: abortionfinder.org, ineedana.com, and plancpills.org. Be sure to stock up and share these resources π with your friends and loved ones.

From the Deedsβ Archive: Since weβve now moved to Substack, we are sharing some of our previous blogs from Medium. In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, please check out our blog; this 3-minute read by our former Deeds Not Words Advocacy & Leadership Development Director, Joslynn Sanchez. She writes, βAt times, it seems our mental health can be the least of our priorities when legislators make decisions that are detrimental to our communities. Even still, it is important to be reminded of the impact mental health has on our personal lives that are shared within our communities.β
|
We agree wholeheartedly. It takes us all prioritizing our healing for true change to be implemented. Self-care is important AND so is community care and involvement. Weβd love it if you joined us in our mission to ignite the power of youth in Texas to lead to progressive impact. Follow us on Substack and engage with our posts. We welcome community discussions! If you or anyone you know has been struggling with Mental Health, call or text 988 for immediate help.

Voter suppression is a foundational part of the U.S.'s history (β¬
οΈ great resource to review, btw), and we believe in a future where politicians who intentionally cause harm are never allowed to be in power again.
Republicans have long used the tactic of gerrymandering to get their way because they are determined to keep "things the way they are" (or worse).
Texans know all too well what it means to be cheated and stolen from by the people who are meant to serve the interests of the communities they represent. Explicitly naming: Governor Greg Abbott and his goonies.
|
We are in solidarity with the people of Tennessee, who are choosing to fight against the tyranny of the republicans taking advantage of the recent weakening of the Voting Rights Act through gerrymandering.
Whether we live in Texas, Tennessee, or any other state, we must remember that if it's happening in one state, others are soon to follow. They know that when we join together, we have the power to create a world that truly benefits all people and moves us closer to holding them accountable.

At Deeds Not Words, we believe in galvanizing the power of young people to become agents of change, igniting cultural shifts through leader development, grassroots organizing, and the power of creative expression. We envision a future for young leaders of color where they have the autonomy to reach their full potential through freedom from violence, reproductive autonomy, economic opportunity, and equitable representation. We believe that, through building a strong foundation of empowered leaders, amplifying collective voices, and reshaping cultural norms, we aim to dismantle oppressive systems and cultivate a society where equity and justice thrive.
Our changemakers are eager to collaborate with a diverse range of partners across Texas, and nationally β fellow non-profits, foundations, businesses, and moreβ to tackle critical issues facing young people. Together we can cultivate a society where equity and justice thrive. If this sounds like you or an ally, weβd love to connect! To explore partnership opportunities or learn more, please contact us at hello@deedstx.org.
