Deeds Not Words Announces New Executive Director

TEXAS - Alyssa Canty has been named Executive Director of Deeds Not Words and Deeds Action Fund. Deeds Not Words is a statewide non-profit organization founded in 2016 to support young people in advancing gender justice activism through leadership development, advocacy, and cultural organizing through campus chapters and community advocates.
Alyssa Canty has almost a decade of experience growing the campus organizing program with Common Cause. During her time there, she led a dedicated team of passionate professionals empowering young people to become active agents of change. She brings a strong background in youth advocacy and civic engagement with a core understanding of Deeds Not Words’ mission and vision.
“Young people have not only played a critical part in social movements, but they have led them. I am excited about continuing the great work of Deeds Not Words through providing trainings and resources to young people throughout Texas so that we can ensure all Texans are free to choose, free to act, free to dream, and free to envision a future of prosperity,” said Alyssa Canty, Executive Director of Deeds Not Words. “I know that this generation of young people have the power to truly make lasting change in Texas, in the south, in the country, and in the world!”
“As Deeds Not Words approaches its 10-year anniversary, we are committed to the continuation of leadership development, advocacy, and cultural organizing in Texas,” said Emmett Shelling, Deeds Not Words c3 Board Chair. “Having Alyssa serve as the new Executive Director would not only advance our shared mission but propel us into the next 10 years of youth engagement for the betterment of Texas for all.”
