LOUISIANA  - On Wednesday, April 29th, the Supreme Court of the United States weakened protection under the Voting Rights Act. In a 6-3 decision, the Court argued that Louisiana’s second Black-majority congressional district had an unconstitutional racial basis and did not follow the standards for drawing a district.

“It weakens a Civil Rights-era law and pushes people of color out of being represented in their vote. Considering the dangerous redistricting acceleration that we saw in Texas during the last legislative session, we are preparing to make sure the youth and BIPOC vote is counted for,” said Alyssa Canty, Executive Director of Deeds Not Words.
